Minister of State for Disabled People's message to stakeholders for the 21st International Day of Disabled People
Of course our resources launch at NIACEdefinition was a very small celebration compared to many others. In his message to stakeholders, Mike Penning (Minister of State for Disabled People) explained how removing barriers and enabling disabled people is at the heart of the Government's approach. The Minister's statement highlighted a number of key areas of work, including:
- the government's Disability Confident campaign, where government is working in partnership with business and employers to challenge negative attitudes about disability employment (link will take you to campaign information and downloadable posters)
- the Paralympic Legacy where the new Built Environment Professional Education project aims to address the inaccessible building design by encouraging a greater focus on inclusive design in the training of built environment professionals such as architects and town planners
- Aspire2 (2nd edition) on-line magazine aimed at young disabled people, which has the theme of attitudes, perceptions and disability hate crime (attached below)
- Disability Action Alliance and Money Advisory Service (MAS) new life-event page on the MAS website providing information for people who are ill or disabled
